The Committee

The society is run by a Committee of 11 members, drawn from many different year groups and disciplines. Lead by the President, Henry Coyle, the society stage many entreprenurial challenges throught the year designed to test students skills.

The committee for the academic year 2009-2010 was elected in week 9 of the last academic year and details on all committee members can be found below:


Name: Henry Coyle

Position: President

Course: Economics

Year: 3rd

Henry joined the York Entrepreneurs at the end of his first year after winning ‘The Apprentice York’. He is the newly elected president and former Finance Director. Away from York Entrepreneurs, Henry set up ‘Travelsoc’, a new society for students interested in travelling. Henry is also an active member of the ‘Economics Society’. This past summer Henry has been working at Deloitte on a Summer Internship.


Name: Scott Murphy

Position: Seceretary

Course: History

Year: 3rd

Currently studying History at the University of York, Scott won The Apprentice York in 2008 and has since gone on to organise several business competitions across campus as Secretary of the York Entrepreneurs Society.  He enjoys his role as an intern with the White Rose CETLE for Enterprise and has been involved with increasing the profile of student enterprise and entrepreneurship across his University.  His position as Secretary of his College JCRC has seen him raise considerable sponsorship for student activities and events.  With such a taste for success he hopes to enter the world of management upon graduation.


Name: Sherad Dewedi

Position: Finance Director

Course: Economics

Year: 3rd

Sherad took part in The Apprentice York 2008 which initiated his interest in the York Entrepreneurs Society. Initially Sherad was appointed Website Director but has been elected as Finance Director in his final year with the York Entrepreneurs. He has a passion for following and playing sports, in particular, cricket and football and also enjoys keeping abreast with current affairs. After graduation, Sherad will be working for Ernst & Young and studying towards the Chartered Accountancy qualification.


Name: Oliver Morbey

Position: Events Director

Course: English

Year: 3rd

Oliver joined the York Entrepreneurs after enjoying his time working with the society on their Merchant Adventurer's Guild Hall project. He has since joined the society, taking the role of Events Director alongside Chloe Milne, and is looking forward to building on the success of previous events. Upon graduating, Oliver plans to head to London to pursue a career in commercial law. His hobbies include surfing, sailing and skiing.


Name: Chloe Milne

Position: Events Director

Course: Management

Year: 2nd

Chloe first came into contact with the York Entrepreneurs when  she talked to some of its members at Fresher’s Fair.  During her  first term at York, she competed in the ‘Blueprint’ competition,  which her team went on to win. Chloe became a member of the  Committee soon after this as an associate on the Merchant Adventurers Project. In the future, she is looking forward to increasing her involvement as an integral member with the hope that it will prepare her to pursue a career in strategy management.


Name: Louise Flower

Position: External Enterprise Director

Course: English and History

Year: 3rd

Louise joined the York Entrepreneurs after having been  inspired  by the success and professionalism of their flagship event ‘The York Apprentice’. Since then she has assumed the  role of External Relations Officer, liaising with both campus and local press to guarantee coverage during the events as well as contributing generally towards the running of the society’s events. On top of her other commitments,Louise has also become involved in consulting for the Merchant Adventurers Project through YE, using the skills gained through her summer internship at the business and technology consultancy Detica. Other hobbies include travelling, diving and singing.


Name: Katie Laing

Position: Business and Sponsorship Director

Course: History

Year: 3rd

Since winning the 2008 York Apprentice Katie was admitted onto the committee and now occupies the role of Press and Publicity Officer. Other societies which she takes an active role in include Travel Society and the United Nations Society. Upon graduating, Katie wishes to pursue a career in Law, and will hopefully be taking a law conversion in London. In her spare time, Katie enjoys socialising and reading.


Name: Roshni Durve

Position: External Relations Director

Course: Finance and Management

Year: 3rd

After leading her teams in The Business 2007 and The Apprentice 2008, Roshni was keen to take an active role within the committee. Previous summer internships at IBM Consulting and within Politics, at the office of former Prime Minister Sir John Major have enabled her to gain a wide range of applicable skills. Roshni enjoys travelling and embarked on voluntary work in Mongolia last summer, where she also spent some time learning about emerging markets in East Asia at various leading banks. Furthermore, she has set up and led The York Management Society where she successfully gained sponsorship from Accenture. Roshni also takes an active role in societies including Fusion, and plays badminton at College Level.


Name: Simon Musgrave

Position: Marketing Director

Course: Economics

Year: 3rd

Currently studying Economics at the University of York, Simon joined the York Entrepreneurs after competing in The Apprentice York 2009. As a Marketing Director, Simon is now responsible for ensuring students are aware of events held by the society. He also has an active involvement in the Photography society, having already pursued this interest for several years. This summer Simon will be working for BDO Stoy Hayward on an internship.


Name: Matthew Freckelton

Position: Digital Communications and NACUE Co-Ordinator

Course: Sociology

Year: 3rd Year

Matthew entering his second year as part of the committee has taken on a new role of Digital Communication Director and is now responsible for the website and raising its profile. This new role will present Matthew with many new challenges but after successfully organising three of the society’s most renowned events as Events Director on lasts years’ committee Matthew is well placed for these challenges. Matthew also works at the Enterprise zone in York and specialises in the upkeep of the National Events website UKNEED. Matthew was also recently at the IEEC 2009 where he was proud to receive the 'Society Award' for the work the YES had carried out last year. During the past summer Matthew worked as an Intern for Northern Rail, has secured two part time jobs for the upcoming academic year  and has helped raise £1750 for YES activities for 2009/2010.
